CDL SKILLS TEST UPDATE: WHAT'S CHANGING?

Service Oklahoma is transitioning to the 2022 Commercial Driver License (CDL) Skills Test Model, replacing the previous 2005 version. This updated testing model is designed to modernize the CDL skills examination while maintaining the high standards necessary to safely operate commercial motor vehicles.

WHAT'S CHANGING?

  • The Vehicle Inspection portion of the skills test has been updated.
  • The Basic Control Skills portion of the test has changed.
  • Applicants cannot combine portions of the 2005 and 2022 test models. Once you begin testing under one model, all remaining portions must be completed using that same model.

  • Maintains rigorous standards for evaluating an applicant's ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Improves the efficiency and consistency of CDL skills testing.

IF YOU ALREADY STARTED THE 2005 SKILLS TEST...

If you have already begun the 2005 CDL Skills Test, you have two options:

  • Complete the remaining portions of the test at a testing location that still administers the 2005 model, or
  • Restart the entire skills test using the new 2022 test model.
